OK, first of all, you have to bear in mind that I am *so* not a “salon product” kind of gal. Give me a two gallon bottle of Pert from Costco, and I could take care of my hair for the rest of my life. Or so I thought until Birdie gifted me with a bottle of this beoooooteful hair care product. I had no idea a home shampoo experience could seem so indulgent.
First of all, the bottle is sort of shimmery, and feels easy-to hold even with soapy hands in the shower (Authorial Aside: Our younger son was knocked nearly senseless one time when the aforementioned weapons-grade bottle of industrial shampoo fell off the shelf in the shower during an earthquake. Had it been the Avon, a mere bonk on the noggin would not have scarred him for life the way that experience did!).
Flipping open the lid produced a burst of wonderful fragrance, which even sitting here sniffing it as I type I find hard to describe. Fruity floral with overtones of cucumber and a hint of vanilla maybe? (I’m so bad at this! Do *not* ask me to evaluate a glass of wine, folks. Either it tastes good or it doesn’t. Nuances? Forget it!)
But the shampoo itself? Unbelievable! I squeezed out a snailshell swirl onto my hand and just stood there admiring it for a moment. It shimmered way better than the bottle does — irridescent almost.
And the lather! Oh my!! I had no idea hair products have evolved to such a degree. It was like mushing really good-smelling whipped cream around on my head. I loved it!
But, after the rinse, I faced a difficult decision. Being used to the glide-a-comb-through-it-with-ease effect of using the conditioner that comes with my age-defying hair coloring product (Birdie described my hair as “caramel” but the Clairol Corp. calls it “Toasted Almond”
I was not fully satisfied with my still-tangled tresses at that point, so I went ahead and used my usual conditioner too.
Overall effect? Clean, fresh-smelling hair, and a wonderful user experience. One caveat though. I did feel that it stripped considerably more of the color from my hair than is usually the case with a single shampoo. So, much as I do like the product, I’ve been using it only toward the end of my coloring cycle when I’m close to needing to refresh the “enhancement” anyway. I saw last night when I was going through the Avon website that they do have another product for color-treated hair, and I would definitely give that one a try. If it’s as great a shampooing experience as this one provides, I’m sure I’d become a willing convert.
