I was reading through my latest Bazaar, when I happened upon the ‘Skincare Diaries: How to Get a Gorgeous Complexion’ feature. Yet, after only one “case study” I could hardly believe myself. The skincare regimen recommended for the women was downright ludicrous! Although the “Combination Skin” woman’s skincare regimen already consisted of 10 products, the dermatologist went on to recommend about five more. From what I gleaned, here’s what a derm says one’s regimen should look like:
1) Morning
Cleanser
Toner
Water-Based Moisturizer with SPF and antioxidants (summer)
Richer Moisturizer
2) Evening
Cleanser
10% Glycolic Acid Toner
Eye Cream
Retinol Lotion
Differin Gel for reakouts
3) Bi-Monthly Treatments
Hydrating Gel Mask
4) Monthly Treatments
Alternate: Acne Facial
No wonder the cosmetics industry makes a killing — understanding and organizing such a regimen is confusing and vast. Is this really how it has to be? What ever happened to the simplicity of a Dove Bar? I’m the most beauty-obsessed person I know, and I simply can’t imagine investing my time, energy, and money into such a routine!
